Descubra aquilo que uma outra parte de sí não lhe quer revelar


O caminho para a verdade interior é um caminho longo, que leva toda uma vida a ser trilhado. É um caminho repleto de auto-ilusões e auto-boicotes, onde as verdades profundas interiores se desvendam, umas vezes subitamente, outras vezes a custo de muitos anos de trabalho.
  
Tanto para o peregrino (o paciente) da psicoterapia psicanalítica ou da psicanálise, como para o seu guia (o psicoterapeuta), cada sessão é um passo em direção a uma nova e mais profunda verdade interior, onde cada verdade desvela novos caminhos e sinuosidades. 

Que verdades interiores serão essas que dentro de si, leitor(a), esperam ser desvendadas?

Será esse um caminho que se atreverá a trilhar?

E como imagina que poderia ser o seu guia? 

Talvez lhe surja subitamente a imagem de alguém verdadeiramente interessado em conseguir ajuda-lo(a), que respeitaria pacientemente a sua necessidade de caminhar ao seu ritmo, procurando ao mesmo tempo encorajá-lo(a) a dar o próximo passo e demonstrando estar lá para si enquanto luz orientadora para quando se sentisse perdido(a) ou ajudando-o(a) a levantar-se depois uma queda…?

Talvez lhe surja a imagem de alguém que o(a) achará pouco interessante, que sentirá pena de si, ou que o(a) fará sentir-se envergonhado(a) ou culpado(a) pelas suas angústias, aproveitando cada oportunidade para acentuar a sua culpa e vergonha…? Ou talvez alguém que de um modo ou de outro acabará por desiludi-lo(a)…?

Será que perceber que tipo de guia surge na sua fantasia pode ser por si só um importante início ou um mergulho em profundidade sobre si mesmo(a)… 

Auto-ilusões e auto-boicotes, juntamente com um mundo interior inconsciente ou dissociado, misturado ainda com aquilo que não pode ainda ser pensado – o que depende do amadurecimento do aparelho de pensar - configuram muitas vezes angústias, medos e ansiedades, sintomas e psicopatologia. São sinais de um mundo interior que não está ou não pode ainda tornar-se cogniscível.

Ficam aqui mais algumas “perguntas-guia”:

1. Imagine que alguém escreve uma notícia sobre si.

a) Quais as 3 coisas que jamais iria querer que fossem ditas sobre si?

b) Serão essas coisas verdadeiras?

c) Se não o são, será que ao longo da vida e através das pessoas de quem se rodeou, dos seus familiares e dos seus amigos, foi aprendendo que essas eram o tipo de coisas que as pessoas não deveriam ser, e logo rejeita-as hoje em si?

2. O que é que o(a) irrita mais nas pessoas (atitudes, comportamentos, aspetos de personalidade, etc)?

3. Sente ansiedade quando está no meio de pessoas, seja na rua, na escola, no trabalho, etc., e/ou procura mesmo evitar em maior ou menor grau contactos sociais? Imagine que se coloca nos “sapatos” dessas outras pessoas ao olhar para si, o que estariam essas pessoas a ver sobre si ? Como surge você perante o olhar e a apreciação dos outros e o que sentem esses outros em relação a si? E aqueles que lhe são mais próximos, os seus amigos, companheiros e sobretudo os seus familiares?

Nem todas estas perguntas garantem revelações, como nem todas estas perguntas podem ser de fácil ou rápida resposta. Quiça possam agitar algo dentro de si...

Hábitos dos casais felizes

É cada vez mais frequente encontrar posts em que nos dão meia dúzia dicas sobre áreas importantes da nossa vida, como seja a vida amorosa e outras.

As dicas são boas e reproduzo-as aqui, mas será que nos bastam meia dúzias de dicas sobre os hábitos dos casais felizes para podermos ficar mais habilitados a construir um casal feliz com o nosso companheiro(a)?

1. Deitar ao mesmo tempo.
2. Cultivar interesses comuns.
3. Caminhar de mão dada ou lado a lado.
4. Confiar e perdoar.
5. Focar no que o companheiro(a) faz bem e não no que faz mal.

Eu conseguia arranjar pelo menos mais meia dúzia de dicas e, para além disso, conheço alguns casais que fazem quase todas estas coisas e relação parece mais uma relação de amigos/irmãos do que de casal.

The Great Psychologists: Sigmund Freud

For although the father of modern psychology told us so much about our inner lives, he was touchingly vulnerable himself. 

Sigmund Schlomo Freud was born to a middle-class Jewish family in 1856, in what is now the Czech Republic. He had a deep love for his mother, who called him her “golden Sigi”, and an equally deep hostility to his father, who may have threatened to cut off little Sigi’s penis if he didn’t stop touching it. 
His professional life was not an immediate success. As a young medical student, he dissected hundreds of male eels in an unsuccessful attempt to locate their reproductive organs, and ultimately failed to publish on the topic. He then turned his attention to a new exciting anaesthetic drug, trumpeting its amazing properties. But unfortunately cocaine turned out to be dangerous and addictive, and Freud had to stop advocating its medical use.

A few years later, he began at last to outline the discipline that would ultimately make his name: a new psychological medicine he called psychoanalysis. The landmark study was his 1900 book The Interpretation of Dreams. Many others followed, most importantly The Psychopathology of Everyday Life (1901), A Case of Hysteria (1901), Three Essays on The Theory of Sexuality (1905),The Cases of ‘Little Hans’ and the Rat Man’ (1909), Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis(1915-1917), Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920) and Civilisation and Its Discontents (1930).

Despite his success as a doctor, author, and psychological expert, he was often unhappy. He was a workaholic and confided to a friend, “I cannot imagine life without work as really comfortable.” During a particularly strenuous part of his research he recorded, “The chief patient I am preoccupied with is myself…”

He could be very jealous of his colleagues. He once fainted watching Carl Jung give a talk, and he forbid nearly all his students from even seeing Alfred Adler. He was convinced he would die between 61 and 62 and had great phobias about those numbers. He once panicked during a stay in Athens when his hotel room’s number was 31, half of 62. He soothed himself with his beloved cigar, but he was also very self-conscious about it, because he thought it was a replacement for his earlier masturbation habits.

Yet his private sorrows and anxieties were in fact part of his greatest contribution: his investigation into the strange unhappiness of the human mind. His work shows us that the conscious, rational part of the mind is, in his words, “not even master in its own house.” Instead, we are governed by competing forces, some beyond our conscious perception. We should attend to him-–however strange, off-putting, or humorous some of his theories may seem–because he gives us a wonderfully enlightening account of why being human is very difficult indeed. 

PLEASURE VS. REALITY

Freud first put forward a theory about this inner conflict in his essay “Formulations on the Two Principles of Mental Functioning,” written in 1911. There he described the “pleasure principle,” which drives us towards pleasurable things like sex and cheeseburgers and away from unpleasurable things like drudgery and annoying people. Our lives begin governed by this instinct alone; as infants we behave more or less solely according to the pleasure principle. As we grow older, our unconscious continues to do the same, for “the unconscious is always infantile.”

The problem, Freud said, is that as we get older we can’t simply follow the pleasure principle, as it would make us do crazy things like sleep with members of own family, steal other people’s cheeseburgers, and kill people who annoy us. We need to take into account what he called “the reality principle.” 

Ideally, we adjust to the demands of the reality principle in a useful, productive way: “a momentary pleasure, uncertain in its results, is given up, but only to gain along the new path an assured pleasure at a later time.” This is the underlying principle of so much of religion, education, and science: we learn to control ourselves and put away short-term pleasure to achieve greater (and usually more socially-acceptable) pleasure in the long run. 

But Freud noticed that in practice, most of us struggle with this. He believed that there were better and worse kinds of adaptations to reality; he called the troublesome ones neuroses. In cases of neuroses, we put aside–or repress–the pleasure drive, but at a cost. We become unhappy or even–in a sense–crazy, but we don’t understand the symptoms. 

For example, we might struggle to repress our attraction to people who are not our partner. However, this struggle is too painful to experience directly all the time, so we’ll unconsciously repress it. Instead, we’ll experience delusions of jealousy about our partner, and become convinced they are cheating on us. This is a projection of our true anxiety. It will quell some of our guilt about our wandering eye, but it may also drive us mad. It’s an adaptation to the challenges we face–but, of course, it isn’t really a very good one. 

Freud thought that life was full of these kinds of neuroses, brought on as the result of a conflict between our “id” (literally the “it), driven by the pleasure principle, and the “ego” (the “I”), which rationally decides what we should do about the drives of the id. Other times neuroses come about because of a struggle between the ego and the superego (the “over-I”), which is our moralistic side.

In order to understand these dynamics, we’ll usually need to think back to the time in our lives that generated so many of our neuroses:

CHILDHOOD

Childhood is really the time when we learn different adaptations to reality, for the better or (often) for the worse. As babies, we emerge full of raw, unprincipled desires. As we are raised, however, we are “civilised” and thus brought into line with social reality. If we don’t adjust well, trouble will emerge. 

First in our psychological history comes what Freud termed the “oral phase,” where we deal with eating. We’re born wanting to drink from the breast whenever we want. Yet over time, we have to be weaned. This is very difficult for us. If our parents aren’t careful (or worse, if they’re a little sadistic) we might pick up all kinds of neuroses: internalised self-denial, using food to calm ourselves down, or hostility to the breast. Most of all, we struggle with dependence. If our mothers wait too long, we may grow up to be very demanding and surprised when the outside world doesn’t provide everything we want. Or, we may learn to distrust dependence on others altogether.

Then comes the “anal phase” (more commonly known as “potty-training”) where we face the challenges of defecation. Our parents tell us what to do and when to go–they tell us how to be good. At this phase we begin to learn about testing the limits of authority. We might, for example, choose to withhold out of defiance. We may then, as adults, become “anally retentive” and excessively tidy. We also might hold back from spending money. Alternatively, if our parents are too permissive, we may test authority and other people’s boundaries too frequently. This leads not only to “making messes” as a toddler, but also to being spendthrift and inconsiderate when we are older. 

Freud says that the way our parents react matters a great deal. If they shame us when we fail to comply, we may develop all kinds of fears and anxieties. But at the same time we need to learn about boundaries and socially-appropriate behaviour. In short, potty training is the prime time for navigating the conflict between our own pleasure seeking and the demands of our parents. We have to adapt to these demands appropriately, or we’ll end up with serious problems.

Next comes the “phallic phase” (it goes until about age 6), where we address the problems of genital longings and newly-emerged, impossible sexual wishes. Freud shocked his contemporaries by insisting that little children are sexual: they have sexual feelings, they get erections, they masturbate, they want to rub themselves on various objects and people (even now, the idea makes people uncomfortable). In Freud’s time, the kid would be told to stop it violently; now we tell them this gently. But the point is the same: we can’t permit childhood sexuality. For the child, this means that a very powerful part of their young self is firmly repressed. 

This is even more complicated because children direct their sexual impulses towards their parents. Freud described what he called the Oedipus complex (named after the Greek tragic figure), in which we are all unconsciously predisposed towards “being in love with the one parent and hating the other.” It sounds very strange, but it’s worth attending to all the same. 

It starts like this: as children, most of us are very attached to our mothers. In fact, Freud says that little boys automatically direct their primitive sexual impulses towards her. Yet no matter how much she loves us, mum will always have another life. She probably has a relationship (likely with our dad) or if not, a number of other priorities that leave us feeling frustrated and abandoned as children. This makes our infant selves feel jealous and angry – and also ashamed and guilty about this anger. A small male child will particularly feel hatred towards the person who takes mum away and also be afraid that that person might kill him. This entire complex–now the word makes sense–provides a huge amount of anxiety for a small child already. (In Freud’s view, little girls have it no easier–they just have a slightly different complex).

Then comes the problem of actual incest. Adults should not have sex with children; this is a very serious incest taboo on which society depends. We’re not supposed to have sex with people we’re related to either. But even though we claim to all be horrified by it, as if incest were simply the last thing on our mind, Freud reminds us that things are never made into a taboo unless quite a lot of people are keen on breaking the taboo in their unconscious. This explains all the hysteria around incest and sex with children–the idea of it is lurking somewhere in the back of our minds. 

In order to prevent sex in the family, the child has to be weaned off the desire to have sex with mum or dad. Mum or dad need also to be kind and not make them feel guilty about sex. But all kinds of things can go terribly wrong. 

Perhaps worst of all, mum or dad (or someone like them) might actually have sex with the child. This messes us up severely: we are likely to feel responsible because, in a sense, we did want it–just not like that!

Or, in a somewhat less grievous situation, mum and dad might be fighting or even going through a messy divorce. Then, although we don’t actually have sex with our parents, we are implicitly invited to replace the sexual partner: we become dad’s little madam, or mum’s little man. Freud tells us this isn’t very healthy. 

Most of us experience some form of sexual confusion around our parents that later ties into our ideas of love. Mum and dad both give us love, but they mix it in with various kinds of screwy behaviour. Yet because we love them and depend on them, we remain loyal to them and also to their bizarre, destructive patterns. For example, if our mother is cold and makes belittling comments, we will be apt nevertheless to long for her or even find her very nice. As a result, however, we may be prone to always associate love with coldness.

ADULTHOOD

Naturally, the result is very difficult adult relationships. Ideally, we should be able to have some nice genital sex without trouble, and in the long term, even fuse love and sex together with someone who is kind. What a dream! 

But in reality, there are so many difficulties. Often we can’t fuse sex and love: we have a sense that sex doesn’t belong with tender feelings. “A man of this kind will show a sentimental enthusiasm for women whom he deeply respects but who do not excite him to sexual activities,” says Freud, “and he will only be potent with other women whom he does not ‘love’ but thinks little of or even despises.” As a result, it can be very hard to maintain sex in a marriage, because marriage is ideally built on tenderness. In other instances we find we can’t fuse relationships with kindness, because our parents were so terrible to us that we can’t properly envision that combination. Or perhaps we run away from relationship possibilities because we think we might be betraying a vulnerable parent who still needs us. Ultimately, the things we want are so complex, and we are so frustrated and frightened about how to achieve them, that we develop a range of defence mechanisms (for more on this, see our Philosopher’s Mail piece about his daughter, Anna Freud.)

Freud compared the issues we so often have with intimacy to hedgehogs in the winter: they need to cuddle for warmth, but they also can’t come too close because they’re prickly. He borrowed this analogy from another Great Thinker, Schopenhauer. 

There’s no easy solution. Freud says we can’t make ourselves fully rational: “the primitive mind is, in the fullest sense of the word, imperishable.” We might think that the best way to fix this problem is to fix society instead. But in his book Civilisation and its Discontents (1930), Freud wrote that this kind of psychological dysfunction is the cost of having a society at all. Civilisation provides us with many things–organisation for our lives, sources of meaning, a social network, and money. But it does this by imposing heavily–insisting that we sleep with only one person, imposing the incest taboo, requiring us to put off our immediate desires, demanding that we follow authority and work to make money. Societies themselves are neurotic–that is how they function. A non-repressive civilisation would be a contradiction. 

The media is one of the most striking pieces of evidence. One only needs to glance at a television channel to see how much people love to hear gruesome stories of murder, and all the more so when they involve incest and pedophilia. Freud would say that the media is playing out our darkest fantasies so that our moralistic self can condemn them: so that we can hate the pedophile, so we can judge the violent husband. This is all the more satisfying because these people have done what we’ve unconsciously longed to ourselves. We’re into schadenfreude because we’re repressing our own instincts to cause suffering. No wonder we’re so attracted to war. So long as we fail to understand this, Freud says, we’ll remain an unenlightened society: “Repression is the hostility against which all civilisations have to struggle.”

Freud helps us understand that we all have repressed, aggressive instincts. Perhaps it’s just as well there are violent sports like wrestling, as they may prevent us from channelling our aggression into another world war. 

ANALYSIS

Freud attempted to invent a cure for neurosis: psychoanalysis. From the outset, it was very limited. He thought the patient should be under fifty, or else they would be too rigid. It was very expensive, especially since he thought his patients should come four times a week. And he was quite pessimistic about the outcome: he believed that at best he could transform hysterical unhappiness into everyday misery. Nevertheless, he thought that with a little proper analysis, people could uncover their neuroses and better adjust to the difficulties of reality.

Here are some of the things Freud sought to “analyse” in his sessions:

DREAMS

Freud believed that sleep was a chance for us to relax from the difficulties of being conscious, and especially to experience what he called wish-fulfilment. It might not seem obvious at first. For example, we might think we dream about failing our A-levels simply because we’re stressed out at work, and are thus recalling an older stressor. But Freud tells us that we actually get these kinds of dreams because some part of us wishes that we’d failed our A-levels, and thus didn’t have all the responsibilities of adulthood, our job, and supporting our family. Of course, we also have more intuitive wish-fulfilment dreams, like the ones where we sleep with a sexy co-worker or celebrity.

Once we wake, we must return to the world and the dictates of our moralistic superego–so we usually repress and forget our dreams. This is why we forget the really exciting dreams we had, much to our frustration. In Freud’s view, we are simply repressing our very best unconscious wish-fulfilment so that it doesn’t invade our waking life. (We may, for example, remember the sexy celebrity dream, but are less likely to remember the one about our best friend’s boyfriend…)

PARAPRAXES

Freud loved to notice how his patients used words. He thought it was particularly telling when they had a slip of the tongue, or a parapraxis (we now call these revealing mistakes “Freudian slips”). For example, Freud wrote of a man who asked his wife (whom he didn’t actually like) to come join him in America. The man meant to suggest that she take the ship the Mauretania, but in fact he wrote that she should come on the Lusitania (which was sunk off the coast of Ireland by a German submarine in WWI, resulting in the loss of all on board). 

JOKES

Freud also thought that humour could be very revealing. He wrote an entire book about this in 1905 called Wit and Its Relation to the Unconscious. In it, he explained: “Jokes make possible the satisfaction of an instinct (whether lustful or hostile) in the face of an obstacle that stands in its way.” In short, jokes–like dreams–allow us to get pleasure in ways we otherwise never could.

For example, it probably seems rude to make fun of an old person for being unattractive, yet if we’re feeling a little aggression towards one this joke will seem funny all the same: “This lady resembles the Venus of Milo in many respects: she, too, is extraordinarily old, like her she has no teeth, and there are white patches on the yellowish surface of her body.” Our friends are more likely to forgive us for such a comment–after all, we’re only making a joke. 

Freud noted that jokes also help us make fun of something symbolic, and thus relieve some of our anxiety about it. So we might be laughing not at the particular old person but at the terrifying idea of ageing and death itself, or we might laugh at that story about the matchmaker but really be making fun of marriage. 

MAKING ART

Freud thought that art could be an important means of expression about our neuroses. “The artist is originally a man who turns away from reality…with his special gifts he moulds his phantasies into a new kind of reality.” He suggested that the reason we like art is that it allows both the artist and the viewers to escape from the reality principle, if only temporarily. It helps us cope with the steep price of civilisation: “This aesthetic attitude to the goal of life offers little protection against the threat of suffering, but it can compensate for a great deal,” he wrote. “Beauty has no obvious use; nor is there any clear cultural necessity for it. Yet civilisation could not do without it.”

In 1933, the Nazis rose to power. They burned Freud’s books and banned them as “Jewish science.” “What progress we are making,” Freud told a friend. “In the Middle Ages they would have burnt me; nowadays they are content with burning my books.” But of course he was wrong; he had underestimated the very dark human aggression he’d studied for so long. Elite friends and a sympathetic Nazi officer helped him and his family escape to London, where he lived for the rest of his life. He died in 1939 of jaw cancer. 

Following in Freud’s footsteps, other analysts developed new psychoanalytic techniques, and eventually the wide and varied field of modern psychiatry. Much of modern therapy is very different from Freud’s, but it began with his premise of discovering the dark and difficult parts of our inner lives and unwinding them, slowly, under the guidance of a trained listener. 

Too often we see this kind of therapy as a “cure” for exceptional people who are “sick.” Psychology can seem all the more intimidating because Freud used severe terms like “hysteria” and “cathexis.” Yet Freud’s work demonstrates that many kinds of psychological problems aren’t so much abnormal illness as a part of the human condition. Every one of us is, in some way, really rather mad. Our internal universe is irrational, needy, and conflicted in ways that are bound to make us anxious and even miserable a lot of the time. This is why it’s valuable to revisit Freud: he gently reminds us that we all will be able to benefit from some kind of therapy from time to time. 

We may think we’ve outgrown him, or that he was ridiculous all along. There’s a temptation to say he just made everything up, and life isn’t quite so hard as he makes it out to be. But then one morning we find ourselves filled with inexplicable anger towards our partner, or running high with unrelenting anxiety on the train to work, or transfixed by the latest gruesome death on the news, and we’re reminded all over again just how elusive, difficult, and Freudian our mental workings actually are. We could still reject his work, of course. But as Freud said, “No one who disdains the key will ever be able to unlock the door.” We could all use a bit more of Freud’s ideas to help us unlock ourselves.

PORNOGRAFIA



Estamos na inter-net.
Inter-ligados de uma maneira tão global e massificada como nunca.

Encontramos todo um conjunto de informação absolutamente impressionante - tudo é "googlavel" atualmente - mas também de pessoas e contactos para todo o tipo de efeitos.

A pornografia tornou-se algo de incrivelmente banal e acessível. Pode não ser fácil pensar sobre ela – a pornografia consome-se, não se reflecte sobre! No entanto, gostaria de expor um pouco este tabu, mencionando as problemáticas associadas a quem a produz, bem como, as razões e os efeitos de quem a consome (desde um consumo esporádico a compulsivo).

"Pornografia provém dos vocábulos gregos "pornos" (prostituta) e "graphô" (escrever, gravar). O primeiro destes vocábulos é da mesma família de outros, como "porneuô" (ser prostituta, viver da prostituição) e "pernêmi" (vender, exportar). Este último deve-se ao facto de, inicialmente, as prostitutas serem escravas."

Interessante a origem da palavra. Sobretudo se pensarmos na pornografia de uma forma mais contextual e incisiva, como "prostituição cinematográfica". Os atores ou modelos vendem literalmente a sua imagem e intimidade e, com isso, a sua dignidade e auto-estima (já para não falar nos problemas de saúde e na violência física e psicológica associados…).

A internet pode servir para LIGAR, mas nestes casos, serve para DESLIGAR: o consumo de pornografia estimula laços de uso e abuso sexual do outro sem qualquer ligação “humana” ou “emocional”. Aliás, a principal mensagem que gostaria de transmitir é que a pornografia é uma forma de SUBSTITUIR e COMPENSAR um défice ou insatisfação de LAÇOS emocionais – de LIGAÇÃO HUMANA. Comporta, pois, uma dose grande de frustração, impotência e solidão (muitas vezes inconscientes), procurando buscar um alívio rápido e desesperado na gratificação/descarga do prazer sexual. Nas fantasias sexuais associadas, há sempre uma dose mais ou menos considerável de, dominação, posse, triunfo, vingança e controlo – sadismo – ou o inverso – masoquismo. São, deste modo, fantasias que não só alimentam a violência e a intolerância à frustração, mas também substituem e dificultam ainda mais o investimento real de RELAÇÕES HUMANAS satisfatórias (íntimas) – sobretudo quando compulsivas.
São uma ponte ilusória para o outro, uma busca “de intimidade sexual forçada”, em vez de um encontro recíproco de “olhar e ser olhado” no que respeita aos sentimentos, necessidades e interesses (de onde a relação sexual pode advir como desejo mútuo de maior intimidade).

O que fazer nos tantos casos de pessoas que, pelas suas histórias pessoais de negligência ou abuso (emocional, físico ou sexual), se deixam apanhar por esta rede (“net”), quer de produção, quer de consumo de pornográfico? Como interromper o ciclo de repetição e manutenção de relações de abuso? A dependência de actividades sexuais ou de pornografia pode funcionar como uma terrível droga de uso, abuso, isolamento e degradação humanas.

O importante a sublinhar: criadas por relações patogénicas (disfuncionais), estas problemáticas podem também ser ultrapassadas através de relações sanígenas (saudáveis) igualmente continuadas, profundas e íntimas, onde a compreensão, o respeito e a aceitação imperam.


Haverá fé e coragem para arriscar investir mais neste último tipo de relações?

Amizades que Duram e Amizades que Torturam


O que são boas amizades? O que as distingue de outro tipo de amizades? Como perceber quais as amizades que poderão amadurecer e aquelas que não?

Bons amigos são aqueles com quem há partilha de interesses e vivências, com quem podemos contar, que nos dão (ou tentam dar) bons conselhos e que estão lá para nós muitas vezes quando ninguém mais nos atura!

Para além disso podemos acrescentar, por exemplo, amigos que não se deixam abusar e conseguem transmitir limites e fronteiras de forma assertiva, amigos que nos dão uma visão ponderada - empática e analítica em simultâneo - sem assumir imediatamente o nosso lado de forma incondicional, e amigos que nos fazem sentir gratos pela presença deles nas nossas vidas. Às vezes um amigo é alguem que nos dá o que precisamos, e não tanto o que queremos ou achamos que queremos. Há alguns amigos e amizades que não deixam de ter um efeito clarificador e restruturante do nosso pensamento, das nossas atitudes e comportamentos. São atos psicoterapeuticos que acontecem nas relações, e todos nós precisamos e beneficiamos disso. 

Estas amizades conquistam-se, perdem-se e reencontram-se ao longo da vida.

Mas existem outras amizades. Amizades mais voláteis e mais instáveis, umas que duram muito pouco, outras que se mantêm instáveis durante muito tempo, sendo estáveis na instabilidade periódica. 

As amizades (e outros tipos de relações) que envolvem pessoas com estruturas de personalidade mais vulneráveis podem ser difíceis de gerir e pouco gratificantes. Podemos pensar aqui em alguém - que todos nós com certeza já conhecemos num ou noutro momento das nossas vidas - com tendencia a ficar  ofendido, ou a "levar a peito" comentários ou situações que para a maioria das outras pessoas são relativamente banais. São por vezes pessoas em que num primeiro momento nada denuncía que possam reagir de determinadas maneiras, podendo mesmo aparentarem ser pessoas particularmente fortes. Lado a lado com esta característica podem ser pessoas com dificuldade em perdoar e mesmo com hábito (ou capazes) do abandono súbito de amizades de longos anos, e a propósito de ocorrências relativamente pouco graves.

Podem sentir-se facilmente injustiçadas e quando em conflitos podem por vezes adotar atitudes inflexiveis, que são sentidas pelos demais - ou mesmo afirmadas pela própria pessoa - enquanto posições rígidas e inflexíveis de "ou estás comigo ou estás contra mim!".

Falamos muito em torno de um funcionamento psíquico (organização, estrutura e funcionamento de personalidade) particularmente vulneravel ao stress (despoletanto muitas vezes zanga intensa). Nesses momentos, e de forma mais temporária ou mais permanente, a pessoa perde o contacto emocional (se bem que nem sempre racional) com:

1) A totalidade da  história entre ela própria e a outra pessoa, e de todos os bons momentos vividos na companhia dessa pessoa;

2) Tudo de bom que se recebeu daquela pessoa ao longo do tempo da relação;

3) A afabilidade, bem-querer, boas intenções, e até o amor genuíno por parte da outra pessoa.

Não são apenas as relações de amizade que sofrem neste caso, mas também as relações amorosas e as relações familiares, caracterizadas muitas vezes por conflitos intensos e instabilidade frequente. Ou mesmo por dinâmicas sado-masoquistas em que um ataca e o outro se mostra passivo (podendo eventualmente dar-se uma inversão de papeis, mais pontual ou mais sistemática).

O nível de organização e a estrutura particular de personalidade de cada um de nós condiciona a experiência da ansiedade nas mais variadas circunstâncias, bem como a forma que temos de lidar com essas ansiedades. É de considerar, claro, que existem experiências que provocam abalos psíquicos mesmo em personalidades bem estruturadas. A experiência das relações é uma das principais realidades afetadas pela organização, estrutura e funcionamento psiquico específicos de cada pessoa (falamos de organizações neuróticas, borderlines, psicóticas; estrutura fóbica, obsessiva, compulsiva, histérica, depressiva, masoquista, maníaca, bipolar, narcisica, paranóide, esquizóide, psicopata, sádica, sado-masoquista, dependente, etc., ou mesmo uma combinação entre diferentes estruturas e/ou traços de estrutura).

Será efetivamente muito importante o trabalho de reestruturação de personalidade em psicoterapia, pois possibilita a alteração em profundidade da experiência subjetiva da ansiedade e das formas de lidar com a mesma. Consequentemente abre também portas para uma maior estabilidade nas relações a todos os níveis e para o bem estar e plenitude que dai advêm.

Mães, pais e úteros artificiais


Artigo muito interessante para quem se interessa sobre os papéis materno e paterno, as carreiras profissionais das mulheres, questões de fertilidade, etc.
Mas eu até iria mais longe no futuro: não só as as mulheres poderão ter filhos quando quiserem, com pais identificados ou anónimos, como os homens poderão fazer exactamente o mesmo. 
Mas serão "mães" e "pais" ou uma outra coisa? (Não tem de ser necessariamente nem melhor nem pior)
